(Recap – In the previous episode, Dubey ji alias Rishi ji disclosed the details about “fortune hunting” disposition of Tarun ji and about one childhood friend of Tarunji.)
Dubey ji had nick named this USA based friend of Tarun ji in the same fashion, as we happen to relate an American as Uncle Sam. Hence whenever, he referred his presence, he used this term Uncle Sam or simply Sam. In between, I interrupted him, ” Here floats a story that Tarun ji ‘s wife is settled in England and remits her fifty pounds every month on regular basis.” Upon that, Dubey ji in his hoarse and sneering tone and said, ” the so called story, I already said was coined by Tarun. When his wife is settled in USA, how she could be in England? Leave apart of pound sterling, if she had to remit the money, it should have been in dollars. I know, never she sent even a single dime to him.”
Now I quarried, ” how his wife and children happened to migrate to USA and he left behind ?” In answer to this , he disparagingly uttered a single word emphatically ” Greed!” I protested to his this dictum. Upon that Dubey ji said, “I give you a detailed version of this. Just you pay a heed only. His ( Tarun’s) this friend Uncle Sam, never had visited back his own country India, since the day he left for USA. Even he never came back to see his parents at Varanasi in this long duration. In this long ten years, he came here on his first visit for a good deal of time and once again he made a final visit on second time . In between this ten years Tarun got wedded, fathered two children and need not saying , his wife too became a permanent assistant professor in her college.
That was the period of time, when some one happened to visit any foreign land in USA or Europe on a tourist visa, he was looked upon with an awe. And his this friend was a certified green card holder of USA. You can imagine, how much respect he earned in the eyes of Indians here. Further more, as I told earlier, a remarkable thing, despite this Uncle Sam being so older, yet had not entered into nuptial tie there. Might be an overwhelming effect of social culture of american norms in his life. When for the first time he managed to visit his parental house at the Varanasi, he too landed here in this city at the place of Tarun. He stayed here with Tarun’s family for a long time.
Now look at from this angle. When some well settled NRI ( Non resident Indian ) of US happened to visit back India, here in an a swag he too boasted too many things about his achievements to generate an impression. In this case he did all that on purpose. He rammed the illusive idea in the mind of Tarun and his wife that they were wasting their talent here. In deed, a golden future awaits them there on the land of USA only, not here. The only thing on their part was to be determined to plan to get shifted to US. Being a childhood crony of Tarun, Tarun had had total confidence upon this Uncle Sam. But, never Tarun could judge or anticipate that his this friend Uncle Sam had already been fascinated by the “arresting beauty” of his wife.
This friend had planned a “scheme” in his mind. In pursuance to his scheme, this Sam was showing them the prospective dreams of cozy and comfortable future life on American land. He succeeded in creating an illusion in the mind of Tarun and his wife and they fell into his trap. When this Uncle Sam got assured of the trap and found that iron is hot and ready to sustain the hit of hammer, he played the trump card of his “scheme.” Now he offered a plan to them. Under this plan, Tarun was to move a divorce petition on the reciprocal consent ground of both the spouse. Under the plan, in the compromise basis, both children were to remain in the permanent custody of mother. On being divorced, Uncle Sam had to enter into a registered court marriage with the divorced wife of Tarun.
Since, she was now legal wife of Uncle Sam and by law he was to become the “step father ” of children of Tarun. After that, he was to take wife and children along with to USA. There in US, the ex- wife of Tarun, by virtue of being the legal wife of Uncle Sam, who was a US National was certain to become entitled for US citizen ship after a lapse of time. No sooner, she succeeded in obtaining the citizenship, she would divorce her second husband. Further, then she was to visit back India as US National and had to remarry Tarun. Once again, she had to take Tarun along with to US as a husband. Wasn’t it a funny scheme? In this scheme, everything sounded simple and majestic.
Not only this! this Uncle Sam took Tarun into confidence by swearing the childhood friendship that no doubt, he was to marry her, but she would remain like a sister to him. Even, he was not going to touch her physically in any sense. Look Prakash, this is called “Greed!” Did you get my point ? The dream to live a bright and cozy life blindfolded the mind of both husband and wife. Whilst on the other hand. Uncle Sam too was blindfolded by his infatuation for “arresting beauty” of Tarun’s wife. Prakash, I am narrating you this real incidence of the life of highly educated people of the society and this incidence belonged to that old era when having an affair was considered a taboo and this couple was planning to take divorce.
