This world of that we are a part, runs with activities we participate in. Some measurable portion of our activities is simple and plain and seems analogous to ethics. But our certain diurnal activities, if viewed from ethical standpoint are always against the parameter of ethical norms. Surprisingly, we are given to concede this angle, our matrix has been molded in this way. These norms and values which we violate subsequently fall under the category of “dubious and unethical,” but we have developed an inveterate tendency to ignore our this behavioral pattern.
Since, on the surface every thing is perceived as normal, for on various occasions our participation in those activities is merely like a pawn. As a paradigm, a common man leaves his house in daily routine at the morning for his job in some factory. For the entire day he toils there hard and retreats to his home. It’s his daily routine of life. Now look into the “surreptitious moves” being shaped up at his working place. The factory this man is employed at, there exists a “Workers’ Union.” The Union leaders always engaged in playing wicked games against the Factory owner in the name of workers’ welfare. They have sole object to plot evils to sustain their leadership. Here, common man being a worker is merely a pawn for Union leaders.
On the other hand, Factory owner with intent to increase the factory’s production always remains engaged in scheming some tactics by which on “minimum wages” he could utilize more and more man power. Apart from, to gain extra profit, he markets his products with spurious claim to public. His intent is to gain maximum profit in a minimal low cost. On the surface, everything thing appears good. Factory work and all the assembly line is working properly. All the rules and regulations are being followed, but the tactics being applied for are “surreptitious moves.”
Another instance can be chosen from the border line of two Nations. Here, armed forces of both the countries are deployed as usual to protect their own borders. Commanding officers from both sides are given to arrange “regular meetings” to maintain a peaceful situation. BUT, along with, both sides commanders also keep on maneuvering about the oncoming situation of some skirmish or a full fledged war. They are doing this preparation to confront the situation in case every thing doesn’t go as usual. Both they have got planned “pin points” and futuristic deployment of forces in mind from where the hostile army can be confronted and damaged. They clandestinely remain engaged in that move.
On the same, at the large scale, some one or other is engaged in Anti-social or Anti- National activities clandestinely. The frontal appearance of this sort of elements can not be suspected. The messages sent by these organizations or people are always plain and harmless. But in the same messages some codes are encrypted. In the same way, leaders of esteemed political parties when meet one another in the public platform, always they appear putting arms around to adversary, giving an impression, they have got such cordiality between. Whilst, the truth is, they are always scheming to topple one another on the floor.
In every day life, a man always seems a “sincere father” and a “good husband.” The term “sincere father” is being used since a father never thinks of malice about his children. But he has been called a “good father” on intent. It is sustained by reasons. For this man may have got some “extra- marital affairs” out of the domestic bond. Then, how come he be designated as a “sincere husband.” The same fellow, if run a garment shop, then no sooner, he steps out from his house, at once transforms into a cunning businessman. His moves are worth appreciating.
On the shop, he can sell the same ladies’ fabric item to two different women customers at two different price at a different time. And, if both such women customers turned out to be an acquaintance to one another by chance and in discussion came to know one of them had been cheated by the shopkeeper by selling on a higher price. In a rage, when both customers visit the shop collectively at the shop about this issue, what will happen? The shop keeper won’t give up! He will placate the cheated customer by argument that her item was of better quality fabric and of high grade. He knows to resolve the doubt.
What this all is? These all are paradigms of surreptitious maneuvering. The same person inside the home is an ideal father, brother or son, but outside he is fooling the world by surreptitious moves. Though, each and every person can not be blamed to get involved in this game but every third or fourth person we find indulged in this practice. Amazingly, all this don’t fall into the definition of categorical unethical deportment. For some one, it’s a political commitment, to another, deed done in the National interest and to other it was done to protect the family’s financial interests. We all have got our own satisfactory answers in hand to suppress our scruple of conscience.
The truth is, since the day this Universe has been inhabited by men; people of this kinds have positioned themselves to command the social system in this way or that way. This process is being observed from the time immemorial. At some place we are “player” and at other place merely a “pawn.” Our mental set up too has been accommodated to this pattern and been habitual to this practice of “surreptitious moves.” We don’t find any wrong in this practice.
