(Note– Now I resume to the weird deportment of young Alchemist reported by Ex- army Chief to the great king Montana. Whether, young alchemist in deed was involved in some sort of paranormal activities as feared by Ex-army Chief or other reasons were behind to support his changed deportment. Now, once again this story is bound to be described in third party’s narration.)
As reader knows by going through the contents of past episodes of the story that young alchemist had fired his two junior trainee alchemists on their not obeying his strict commands. After that, this young Alchemist had entirely prohibited the entry of the entry of any other person in his workshop. Now, if I talk about the shiny fragile element obtained by this Alchemist about which king had been reported; that material was plain glass obtained or extracted out of a lengthy process of ores’ refinement at that eon for the first time. Since, prior to this time, no glass material was in existence hence the question of existing of Mirror was at nullity. still, our this young Alchemist was not aware of exact properties of this material.
Really say, still he knew not, how much hard in strength and sustainability this material was? This fact too revealed to him at the very day when this material slipped off from the hand of junior trainee. The curiosity of the trainee alchemist had made it fall on the floor and broke into thousand pieces. That incidence made him realize that this element was highly fragile and needed to be handled with care. Now again he resumed to his old process of ores refining to obtain that material in his workshop. On obtaining the material successfully, one thing cleared into his mind that at the primary stage, when it was hot, it was flexible and can be given some desired shape with some efforts.
He applied the same with the glass. In his new experimental maneuver, he gave it a rectangular, thin layered shape in an iron tray. Here, he prepared two molds. On being set in solid form, an idea flashed into his mind. He intended to see the reaction of some other chemical fluids on it. How it reacts with them or whether that fluid can be percolated through its mass. He chose one tray for the purpose. Since, to his knowledge, glass was highly fragile material in nature, so he shifted it onto the another tray. Prior to this, he spread a comfortable cotton bed at the base as well as on to the side brims of the tray and then carefully placed that sheet upon that. The first idea summoned to his mind was to spray one of liquids, he already had in his workshop.
This chemical fluid was of the nature of some lustrous effect. The formula to prepare that kind of fluid he already had learnt from his senior Alchemist under whom he worked as a trainee in past. Not only this kind of fluid but so many other formula to prepare different chemical fluids he too had learnt from there. He took that small small container of fluid and spread some fluid over the overt surface and with the help of small cotton ball painted it evenly on the entire surface. In fact, the fluid he used was similar to silver nitrate in reaction. After that, he left the tray intact for days. He did so on purpose. He knew that glass surface was hard but fragile, may be if it allows percolation, this might consume days in that process.
After few days, he again visited the tray in the inside room to observe the outcome. The upper surface of the glass was turned into a shiny layer. He touched it, felt it, it was all good. Now he was eager to see the another side of the glass, whether fluid percolated through the material or not. Just he efforted with the move of hands but in excitement his one hand dashed with another small container that contained some liquid having properties akin in color to the red ochre. The liquid now got spilled over the lustrous surface. Though it embarrassed the young Alchemist but he consoled himself. He already was in possession of another tray of glass sheet in spare. He could apply the old experiment with that.
He contemplated for a while, when this new liquid already spilled over the surface of the glass, why not observe the futuristic result of both the liquids in combined properties. As it often occurs with such type of intellectuals, they shift their attention to other experiments or brooding. The same occurred with this Alchemist. He got engaged in his other scientific adventures and forgot about the glass sheet for days to come. After some days, the idea to observe the outcome of combined effects of fluids over the glass recurred to his mind.
As told earlier, the young Alchemist happened to keep the main door of the workshop from inside to prohibit the entry of other people. Only his beloved pet dog was allowed to stay with him inside. Along with, his this workshop once upon a time had been personal abode of his father in law , the feudal Lord Magotee, hence it was palatial in size. It consisted of many spacious rooms, a big hall and an enough sized court yard inside the erected boundary walls. The main hall young Alchemist used for ores refinement, where he had set up of different kinds of small furnaces. After obtaining new materials from the ores, he was in habit to make a deep observational study of them into inside rooms. In fact, inside facility was like a secret lab. He happened to have deep study of different materials in various rooms separately as per need and circumstances.
The same pattern he had adopted regard this glass sheet experimentation. The glass sheet he had placed in one of the inner rooms. There in room, till now that glass sheet was kept in the tray over the table top. He noticed that red ochre dried up completely and now glass sheet’s surface looked like a surface smeared with maroon tint. Alchemist knew, this small sheet was highly fragile and if by chance it again slipped out of the hands or fell down from the top of the table, it might pulverized into thousand pieces. Hence he decided to proceed further study by placing it on the floor. As a safety measure, firstly he spread out a soft thick rug on the floor by the side of the wall, smoothed that out properly. Then he carefully lifted the glass sheet from the tray. Still the downside cotton sheet wrapped on the front side surface.
Now he made the sheet stand obliquely by the side of the wall and carefully began to remove the cotton layer temporarily glued over the front side. He did it with some alacrity and in excitement. AND LO!!! (End of the Part 6th of the story. Cont’d. ) Penned by — Vinay Pharasi —–
