The friend Part 7th
The friend Part 7th

(Recap – In the last part I mentioned, how I succeeded  to get  Dubeji ji alias Rishi ji to elicit  on the topic pf personal life of Tarun ji. In continuation to the same topic …… )

In continuation of the story, Dubey ji again took the thread of the story in hand and spoke, “At that time, it was the daily routine of Tarun to drop his lawyer brother-in-law ( sister’s husband) from the home to the court compound in the morning and pick him again at the evening time and fetch to home, on the scooter, that belonged to his brother in law. After that, for rest of  the day, that scooter remained in the possession of Tarun. No doubt, he was so clever.  He rendered that service cleverly and meekly with dedication for brother-in- law and got benefited to use the scooter freely for day long at his whim. One thing I would like to mention specifically, when time is running favorable to some one, everything begin to occur in a brilliant and delighted way to him.

I am talking of that era, when to have a ride on the bicycle was also considered as an amenity. At that time, this fellow was enjoying the scooter’s ride at no cost. Further, at the top, his brother-in-law too owned a second hand Fiat model car. This fellow firstly maneuvered to learn the car driving on that car and occasionally too began to drive on that car with a swag, as if, he owned that car. I admit, he too took me on  long drive in that car on several occasions. At that time, to be affiliated as correspondent with some National News Paper of repute and besides being tagged as a journalist were considered as an icon of brilliant intellectual persona as well.

Now look the scenario from this angle. Tarun had had a charming personality added with his affiliation with a national news paper. Along with his family connection with a renowned advocate’s family and his being spotted as riding on car and scooter on several sites of city regularly. This all was enough to generate an impression of his being an affluent person ( which in fact he was not,) in the mind of persons who happened to come into his contact. Further, because of his staying with sister’s family, they were often invited to so many public functions and other social family functions. In all such functions, Tarun used to appear with all pomp and show off, besides, he was gifted with eloquence by nature.

It was obvious, in the social bracket he was moving, naturally young nubile daughters of the same circle too were bound to attend those functions. In like wise fashion, he occasioned to come across with his prospective wife. That lady was blessed with a persona of ” arresting beauty” and acumen. Apparently both looked of the same caliber. At that period of time, this prospective wife was working as a lecturer on “ad hoc” basis in some degree college and was under preparation for her Ph.D (Doctorate) thesis. On the completion of thesis, she was certain to secure the permanent job of assistant professor in the same degree college.

At this juncture, Dubey ji alias Rishi ji took a pause and prepared a little drinks for me and himself. with a little sip of drink he again began, “ that was an old, orthodox time of the Indian society of a small city. And the story of friendship between youth of opposite gender evoked so may gossips in the social circle. The friendship between two unmarried girl and boy still considered as a taboo at that time. In fact,it was considered a calumnious  and derogatory deed. People at that time were conservative utterly. In total, a girl having friendship with a boy was in a fifty percent loss of chances of having prospective matrimonial aspect with any other boy. The rest fifty percent chance were contained to the probability to get wed locked with the same boy, she was in friendship with.

Tarun knew very well about this aspect and was moving his steps with a deliberate calculation. Since, young girl belonged to a reputed family and was in educational field. It was obvious, Tarun had planned to secure his own future by entangling this girl. If I use the proper wordings, he was maneuvering his every step on the chess board as a “fortune hunter.”   Under this planning, he began to help her in research work for the thesis seriously. Truly say, it was the hard labor of Tarun in the research of papers, that helped complete the thesis in due course of time and also win the heart of the lady out and out. Finally, thesis was completed and got accepted properly and lady was conferred the Doctorate degree  and this helped her to secure her job permanently as an Assistant professor in the college.

Now lady was totally obliged and infatuated by the Ora of Tarun in all aspects. Not only this, no sooner, thesis got submitted for final approval, he secretly managed to get their marriage got registered before the “Court of marriage officer,” with the connivance of his brother-in- law (sister’s husband). Both Tarun and his wife concealed this fact to come in the knowledge of the girl’s family. Along with, in between Tarun too initiated the process of “proposal of his marriage with girl” through some intermediary with the girl’s family.

At the beginning, the family of lady didn’t give in, but when Tarun produced the “marriage certificate” as a trump card, family were left with no option but to concede to proposal. The marriage certificate worked as a traumatic explosion. Finally they consented to the marriage and in a grandeur function their wedding ceremony got solemnized. (End of the Part 7th. Cont’d). Penned by — Vinay Pharasi —–
