Story with in the story … Part- 1

Sometimes, a so called inanimate object, by itself turns up into a “store” of a story. Likely to that, the subject matter of this writing contents is made of. In the year of 2003, I managed to dispose off some part of my inherited property in the country side. After that, I decided to invest that amount in some residential property in the city. The reality was, the proceeds I obtained by selling of country side’s property did not suffice to buy a property in some posh area. But, I too was not desirous to buy a residence in some old settled part of the city, where often approach roads were in shape of narrower lanes.

                                     In search of property

Hence, I was in search of some property, with a reasonable approach road to the house attached with it. Having a reasonable approach road, might be a good decision for coming future. My broker suggested me a house in an old Punjabi refugee Camp. His advice was, Might the house was an old construction, but walls had strong sustainable strength. Yes, the roof was supported by old fashioned wooden beams of that time. He informed, property owner was in need of down cash payment and from the business point, it was available only at “throw away price.”

Along with, it had proper road approach and situated at a distance of merely half km away, from the main city road. Though, when he suggested me the property, I was not inclined for that. But, even after, I gave a second thought ,” there was no harm to throw a glance over the suggested property.” There, I found that amenity of the approach road was in accord to my choice. In fact, It was situated on the one of main lanes of the colony. Secondly, the house was spacious and contained many rooms. But, main attraction to me was, a sizable orchard attached to the house.

                                                   The orchard

The orchard suited most to my country side mental set-up. Such kind of houses, annexed with an orchard with a habitation of grown up trees, hardly we find in the city side. Orchard contained some fully grown mango trees, one quite old age Jack fruit tree, others of guava, leechee, peach and lime trees. Besides,  a sufficient open space in the orchard was present, being used as Kitchen- garden to grow season vegetables. House was big enough, a separate car garage as an independent entity it also had. Though, the house situated inside the city location, but to me it smelt of an air of country side.

The truth was, it at once was approved by my heart. In real sense, by staying there in a city location, I could enjoy the natural-rural ambiance side be side. I showed my intention to meet the owner of the house. Broker ushered me inside the house. No doubt, house was an old construction but had a strong, sustainable built in it and displayed an old fashioned architecture. In side the house, I got introduced to the old  Punjabi couple. Master of the house made us seated cozily and at ease. Old lady served us tea and snacks at first and then conversation about the property began.

                                                 Know how

I inquired, why he was eager to sell off the property and how he obtained the ownership of the house. He informed, house he inherited from his father. The reason to dispose off  was, he had three offspring. Two daughters and one son. Daughters got duly wed-locked and were happy in their family. Son was youngest and married too, who worked in a multi national company at Delhi. He was planning to buy some apartment there. Apart from, couple were on the verge of fragility, due to old age and needed to stay with son in this old age.

Not only this, they candidly disclosed, Son had already booked an apartment and paid some hard cash as advance money there. The builder had offered him a proposal, if he makes the rest of payment in a single installment, he was to be benefited in shape of a big discount. Hence, it was the need of the time.  What so ever, little or more experience I had had about the property matters, that at once suggested me, ” you are getting the opportunity to buy the house at a very low cost.”

                                                    Deal got struck

I assented to buy the property. some earnest money I gave to them, took the receipt of that. In next two months, I got registered the sale-deed of the property into my name, at the office of the Sub- Registrar of the property. The couple bagged two weeks more time to stay in the house, to dispose of the unwanted goods of house hold. I gave two weeks time to them. They too showed a generosity, in the sense, when they left the house, they left behind, one double bed, one single bed and some furniture.

Furniture consisted of an old fashioned strong sofa chairs set and central table and in good condition every thing was. It was the same sofa chairs set, sitting upon which he had bargained about the transaction and I had struck the deal. This all, they gave me as a gesture of token in lieu of extra two weeks time, they had stayed in the house. ( Cont’d) Penned by — Vinay pharasi
