Infatuation in dreamland
Sometimes the ‘incidence, that worked as a ‘factor’ to exaggerate a situation and worsens it; that too may be cured by some another ‘incidence,’ of the same kind. In medical science it’s named as “psychic therapy.” The story I am going to relate is a paradigm of that. Prior to initiate the story, I have merely to say, stories often remain present around us, we simply have to string them into a thread.

This story belongs to one of my childhood friends, back into my hinterland village. At that period of time, it was indeed a pastoral life, we happened to enjoy. Now, that village has transformed into a suburban locality with the growing urbanization. In that time, my basic primary school of the village, as per the norms was up to fifth standard and ran by the government education board. The population of the village was thinner and in our fifth standard , scantly a total number of students were only eight there. Seven boys and one girl student. After basic Primary school, we all got shifted to a High School, where five of us further elevated to Intermediate college. From there, only three further continued our study into a city based Degree college.
Disposition of Rajoo
To obtain the degree in graduation, this kind of facility was available in city based college only. The means of transportation was ” bicycle.” It was the group of us three boys, who daily made up and down from our village. We all were chum from Basic Primary School., naturally we had developed an intimate bonding amid us. In our this group of three, one was named Rajoo. He was buoyant and cheerful by disposition. He had a special knack, to make fun in every situation, even in the worst situation, he had the ability to make us all laugh. A little bit short height physique, but his cheerful disposition, ever kept his person taller than us. It was ever pleasant to be in his company.
Family back ground
Rajoo belonged to the same background as that of mine. We were basically a farmer class family, of up to certain middle class, as per the prevalent measures of our rural ambiance of the locality. Meant, the land holding of the family, that was a measuring scale to categorize the class. But the financial condition of our families were never “well- off,” as the image of farmers been conjured in mind by Urban people in mind. That image is an outcome of depiction in movies only. Otherwise, the life of agriculture class has ever been toilsome.
Those were the days, when parents generally were not educated but they dreamed to provide whatever facilities they could afford to children, to make them educated. This facility, ever facilitated students like us to enjoy the college life. To us, attending the classes in degree college was like celebrating the picnic. Since, the atmosphere in the college was so liberal in this regard, students were at their whim to attend the class, if preferred or not. Often, we all three happened to bunk the classes and installed ourselves in the Cine- hall and enjoyed movie watching. There only, my this friend became fascinated by the charming beauty of Cine heroines.
Fascination of beauty
This fascination had had a deep impact into his mind and induced him greatly to get married with a girl, who in some aspects should be near to some cine actress. This idea got deeply inscribed into his mind regard his futuristic marriage plan. Although, every boy, whenever images in mind some girl as a life partner, he always conjures the image of a charming beauty. It’s the boy’s psychology and nothing wrong is with this. It is another fact, all girls do not fit in to the category of “beauteous’ one, but they too get wed locked.
Thus, the idea to marry a beautiful girl germinated in to Rajoo’s mind and deepened day by day. In between our this college life, our third friend preferred to join the Indian Army and he succeeded in that too. Now, only we two remained in the group. Time elapsed gradually and Rajoo too joined as a clerical staff into Water Works department. I was to continue my study further, hence I moved to another college after graduation. Years passed on and I permanently got settled in the city side. But the village being the house of may parents, I intermittently, on regular basis visited the village to look after my parents.
Betrothal
In my one of such intermittent visits, Rajoo specially visited my house, he was brimming with felicity. He warmly invited me to attend his betrothal ceremony, it was scheduled to be held with in a fortnight. He in privacy intimated me, ” Friend, my old dream is now coming true ! You remember, I ever fostered a dream to marry a beautiful girl. My “would be” is so gorgeous one. In deed an “arresting beauty” she is.” Giggling, he further added, ” it’s the blessings of my being a government job holder. Do come ! and attend the ceremony and be prepared to participate as a member of Baraat ( Marriage procession) after six months, after all you are my childhood chum!”
I extended him my greetings. In fact, I too was happy on knowing about his dream coming true. On the fixed date I attended the ceremony. There, on finding the suitably opportunity, he showed me the post-card size photograph of his prospective better-half. Indubitably, it seemed by the photograph, she was an ” arresting beauty.” (End of the Part-1.. story cont’d ) Penned by — Vinay Pharasi
