Every man fosters a wish to attain a recognition in the social system, he is part of. This tendency is a natural phenomenon. We observe this tendency adhere to the man’s nature from his birth on wards. In the infantile stage, a child is considered free from any element of malice. Even than, a child as a nestled one or as a toddler remains alert to get a recognition. By creating false cry or whimpering, he/she often attempts to focus the attention of mother towards him or her. As if calling the mother, ” I am here, pay heed to me!” Hence in simple words, “ to make others’ attention focused upon you is the basic ingredient of recognition.”
As much as a child keeps on growing, the sense of being recognized proportionally also increases in him as apart of his person. Now, he begins to participate in group’s play and other activities with full intent, instilled with a wish to perform better than others. His this effort is nothing but to establish his recognition among the group of children. Often all children give such sort of efforts. Some children make their recognition by their knowledge (acumen,) others do the same by exhibiting their excellence in sports activities. At that stage of infancy or childhood, this effort may be given the name “to get identified oneself.” This process of identification is “prerequisite” of recognition.
Here in some cases, an other element we find present, getting mixed with this process of recognition. This element is appertained to “conceit.” For a paradigm, if a child scores highest marks in the study as a topper of the class, then along with the phase of recognition, he may nourish an element of “excelling others” as well. But, if this sense of “excelling than others” is a balanced one in behavior, it’s acceptable. In case, it exceeds to the condition by taking others as “fool” before him, then it’s conceit or haughtiness. As told earlier, man contains this element to get recognized is inherent in his nature. This is an essential element as such for his personality development provided the process is going in a positive format.
Whole through the journey of life, every one remains engaged in running after this “recognition.” In a way, he ever exerts to maintain his “excellence” over others. A man always fosters a wish to own a decent house and a secured financial future etc. In that way, it helps him put into some extra ordinary position, that becomes the aim of his life. But this attaining of aim too has got both aspects of positiveness and negativeness. Just think, at the initial stage, his aim is to attain a “target.” After attaining the “target” he is forced to maintain that “position.” For a paradigm, the first aim of a person may be to obtain a degree in medical science as a doctor and practice as a physician or surgeon in the life. The next target certainly to be followed would be to get established as a noteworthy or renowned doctor.
After obtaining the degree and giving hard efforts he gets established as a renowned practicing doctor. This doesn’t mean that he can now continue his practice sitting carelessly. To maintain his ‘repute’ as a renowned doctor, he is supposed to keep himself updated. For this, he is required to be in touch with medical journals regularly. This helps him to know about new discoveries, inventions and other techniques being introduced in his medical field. All this may be helpful in present and in future while treating his patients and this is essential to maintain his repute. He is forced to adopt all new information in the field otherwise he may be outdated.
In this case we find a nexus of repute with recognition. The hard work in shape of efforts is needed here. Now we look into positive and negative facets in other aspects. If after attaining”recognition” you retain hospitality and respect for others in a polite way, it takes your recognition to another higher level. In contrast, if you are fraught with “sense of excellence” much more than requisite , you are a conceited fellow. This ” I ness” as a conceit may bring a satisfaction to you, but it damages your position in a certitude.
The next phase of this positive and negativeness includes the demeanor of your attaining recognition. In what chosen way, you attained the recognition. As a positive instance, we have gone through the paradigm of doctor. But some people in this process to attain the recognition prefer the path of illegal and invalid means. A person, to hoard the money and big name may choose the life of crimes. His name may be floated widely as a nefarious man. This too brings him a recognition but in a negative form. People may pay him respect on his face but because of his terror. On his back, he ever remains a topic of harsh criticism. Whilst, when we consider the case of doctor, the respect he gathers behind is coming generously from the core of the heart of people.
Recognition in a way becomes the repute of a person. Every one chases it with intent to obtain a “special position.” It’s the quest for recognition that helps grow a social system in an advanced form. This element of recognition is a “must” for a society. A civil society that lacks this element as an ambition becomes lack luster and dead alive. Since every society is nothing but the cluster of men. Man as a unit of the society either helps to grow a society in a positive way or may leave to die it as a man without ambitions.
