human relations vis a vis public relations…..

Dominance of ethics of the time

People born in the sixth decade or prior to that period of last century(20th century), have been blessed to live a social life. That life was fraught with activities, interactions and outcome saturated with the warmness of element of “human relations.” Human relations simply means a closer, knitted relationship in a social framework. The factors to enrich this kind of relations were “not so extra-importance” given to materialism. Or it can be said, “financial status” was not so “predominant”. This does not purport that “wealth” played not a significant role, but, at that period of time the significance and dominance of ethics and social values too had a ponderous impact.

For instance, the salary of a government teacher in that period of time was so meager, if you compare that with present day slab of teacher, it would be counted as “pittance”. And that was the time when the concept of “tuition classes” hardly existed. If teacher found any student poor in some subjects, he took it his responsibility to give him extra teaching free of coast. Now you compare that, with today’s system! Everything is commercialized. An influx of ‘tuition points’ or centers, coaching institutions and so many other co related running infra- structure are visible today.

Long ago “human relations” were the foundation stone of a social system. Now that concept is repealed. At that time, a wealthy man was given to extend his respect to a teacher from the core of his heart. He was inclined to judge the significance of a teacher, to the level that this man was to enlighten his coming generations with the torch of education. This was the labyrinth of the human relations. People used to remain eager about the well being of their kith and kin. People lacked the means of transportation, roads were not in good condition and people did not have personal conveyance.

                                The warmth of social tie

The only means of conveyance in vogue was “bicycle,” and that too could be afforded by “well-off” one. The fashion of scooter and motor bike or alike two wheeler is the outcome of the decade of 1980. For public in general, the means of transportation were government run roadways motor-buses for distance travelling. These motor buses were supposed to run on the major roads.(the concept of highways as such were not introduced in India at that time).

After alighting from the motor bus, people further had to tread miles and miles on foot, to reach the place of far distance located kith and kin.  Amazingly people used to complete that journey with the sole purpose to keep alive their human relations. In turn, such guests planned to make a sojourn at the destination point. The warmth to keep alive human relation kindled in the heart of all people.

                          Today’s interaction in comparison

Now just compare that demeanor of the past with today.  Today, well maintained asphalt roads are everywhere, even connected to the remotest desolate areas with proper approach to highways. People are in sound financial position, owning personal fuel based conveyance. But the “trend” to visit at relatives and to make a stay over there is now vanished.

Mere exchange of messages of well being through electronic gadgets i.e. voice call, video calling, written text etc has substituted that “visit tradition”. This demeanor is simply a notion of “public relation”. Here, knowing of the well being of all others is kept, as the, “information about the acquaintances”. It’s akin to making call to customer care to seek the solution of your technical problem.

                                          Insistence for human relation

At the beginning of this blog, the mention of decade of 1960 and prior to that was made. That was for the sheer purpose since people of the bygone era insisted upon maintaining of “human relations“. At that time, the concept of “joint family” prevailed. The process of urbanization was slow and likewise “economy” of the nation was slackening. Today we live in a fast speeding urbanized economy in a good health. All means to make a man happy are within the reach of the hand, but the warmth of the relationship lacks. Relations are maintained keeping in mind the futuristic benefit.

It is nothing but the “public relations”. The old generation had had the conception in the mind.  So that, when you are in the bad weather, at least some friends and relations should be opt to offer a hand of help. But as on today, everything is available on payment. It’s not that, one doesn’t need help or company in hardship. But, when one is in himself is supposed not to be helpful in hardship of others, how others may come to stand by your side. This is the aftermath of so called “public relations”. Yet the good time is not slipped from our hand, better we should generate “human relations” with like minded people in society, in stead of “public relation”. Give some efforts, a sound possibility still exists for comeback of “sweet human relations”…Penned by —Vinay Pharasi..
