Fear and.’ fear factor…

There is difference over the term “fear” and “fear factor.” Although people are inclined to take both the terms as synonymous or identical. “Fear” is the condition of mind rather a type of “mood,” under some compelling situations. Whilst the term “factor” when suffixed, it becomes an element as result producing one. Fear can be described as an abstract noun, but “fear factor” is something else. Fear as a word defined as,  a feeling when you are assailed by something dangerous, painful or frightening situation, that might happen.

But in another aspect, when we keenly analyse the term, it emerges up as a mental set up that inhibits you to do something, which often may be a wrong. But, the fear may contain a vastly described element. Simply, it can be defined as an element of insecurity, that plays as an inseparable and vital factor in our diurnal life. When it is counted as a”factor,” then it is apparent, it has to become “result oriented.” Further more, when fear in itself is categorized as “negative element,” the result but natural would be negative as well.

Fear as a part of mood

Not only this, if we analyse the various “moods” of human being as love, affection, anger, hatred, violence, distraction or dejection or reclusion etc. We find them all, in the lower wrung of the ladder of moods of human being. The “element of fear” predominates them all, by occupying the position on the uppermost wrung of the ladder. Fear, ever survives with tenacity, but we are inclined not to take the notice of that.

The role of fear in daily life

Let us define the vital role of fear in our daily routine. No sooner, we awake early in the morning, the first thing we do in a certainty is, we throw a glance at the watch to notice what time it is? Why so? The reason is, you are bound to get yourself prepared up to a fixed time, and compelled to leave the home for your daily destination or occupation. This destination may be your place of job; where if you reach late, may be put subject to the wrath of your boss. Further, if you are an entrepreneur, you are under apprehension of loosing your some clients who might be waiting for you at your office premise!!

When you are a kid, as a school going student, you daily remain under constant fear to miss the school bus, if not reached on the bus stop at the prescribed time. When you are out of your home and treading the road, you follow the civic rules of the road as per the code of the law. Meant, you walk aside on the footpath as per the code of the law, for you feared that if you walk in the violation of the code may be hit and injured, it,s the fear of accident. If driving a vehicle, always you carry all credential papers of vehicle. Papers like driving license, insurance paper and registration paper etc, under fear of being charged for legal proceedings, if not produced on demand before the authorities.

                                                     Fear always haunts

When running a business, you are under an imaginary apprehension of “loss in business.” A very common fear is, when you are assailed by some ailment or temporary infection.  That ailment, makes you bed ridden for some days to come.  In that situation, you grapple with imaginary fear of death, which you feel certain to engulf you. Tell me, is there any walk of the life you don,t survive without element of fear! Till the time you were not financially self-sustained, you had to live under the authoritarian vibes of father. When you were financially competent enough, you get wed locked and rest of your nuptial life, you are forced to live under the dictate of better half, that is a fearful situation either.

                                            A misconception

Every man lives under the misconception that he is the real master of the house. May be, after getting wed locked for some years, he experiences that his every dictum is being followed. But, in fact he does not apprehend the coming danger that wife in a practical way microscopically studying him. So she may find out his loop holes. And, after some years he feels defeated, on finding that all terms and conditions of house hold are being dictated by the wife. He is simply conferred with the position of a (jail) warden only. From here, the notion of not of the fear, but of terror begins in the life. His position of so called (jail or house) warden, wife too frivolously en cashes to threaten the children.

                                         Fear is glued to us

The element of fear constantly walks indirectly with us, as a shadow and subconsciously keeps us under its domain. In every walk of life, under the shadow of fear, we follow the civic rules, bye laws on the road, in the bus stop or at all public domain. Even at the private premises, we act in accordance with the law. Despite knowing that government is always short of man power, to get its law and order regulated properly. And we are supposed to be at a comfort zone, to violate the law but we don,t. Since, majority of us is law abiding due to the fear. Rather we are benefited by this subconscious fear either. For if we don,t follow the civic rules of the road, utmost chances of occurrence of some mishaps are there too. We could be injured or inflict injuries to others or both the things may happen simultaneously.

Though sometimes we tend to overlook the laws and bye laws. For instance, may sometimes we violate the bye laws of road. For example, on noticing that no traffic constable there , we jump at the red signals and cause to create unwanted traffic jam. In the bank or hospital we break the queue and on committing this wrong, we are scolded by by other law abiding citizens. Our that misbehavior make us feel insulted and humiliated. We vow to our self, not to break the law in the future and take a place back in the queue patiently.

The element of fear, too made mankind to attain the high goals in gradual process of evolution. As a primal man he used to live naked, then fear of changing bad weather, compelled him to invent something to protect himself. At first he sought bodily protection by covering his body with leaves, then he applied animal hide. The natural caves loaded him up with the idea of shelter. Firstly he managed to erect makeshift hut, then gradually step by step step he reached to present position, where he is raising sky scrapers to stay in.

The legal and social aspects of fear

The element of fear may be on the one side legal and on the other hand be the cause of social banishment. We observe the ethical code of conduct for the fear of not being put subject to the social boycott. A teacher does not smoke in the public for the fear so that his students may follow his bad conduct, but despite of all these precautions , a few students somehow learn to smoke but with the fear of ethical values, they happen to smoke at some hidden corner or behind the walls. The moral fear is part of ethical code that is connected with with the fear of loosing social reputation.

In medical science, a segment with innumerable fears under the title of “phobia” is in practice, which deals with such fear extensively. For that, this segment of medical science is equipped with specialist doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists and specific medicines to cure the fear. An amazing quality of human brain is, it knows how to overpower and subside the “fear”. Until and unless mind is possessed entirely by fear, person does not look “feared.” But, indirectly and subconsciously he lives with this element of fear. But if we reflect deeply about the fear, it in total helps us to live a disciplined, decorous life with civility. Penned by — Vinay Pharasi…..
