Dreams in oblivion.....
People with limited access
This piece of writing is basically targeted upon those people, who are in their fifties, sixties or more of age group. This article focuses, as, a sort of “retrospection” of that “bygone era.” The bygone days, after passing of which, we people even don’t give a second thought or not contemplate to look back. Even we don’t consider about the circumstances which forced us not to do that. The “time span” or “bygone era” I am talking of above mentioned age group people. It is related to the time of their youth or when they were of teen age.
The age, with a comparatively more innocent and not so well harnessed “know how” and “know about” the various fields of social studies. If, to compare them with the present youth of the same bracket. And reasons for this innocence were simple. Neither the spread of education or information were so advanced. Nor, the channels to support other co related activities were with in the reach of hands of common people.
The process of Urbanization was limited to certain selected places. Along with, means to glean the information were confined to news papers, radio-set and related books of the subject. Whilst today the surge of urbanization, of advanced high tech education in a revolutionary fashion, has penetrated to the remote corners of far located hinterlands.
conventional values of the old time
At that “bygone era” we happened to know, about the population feature of our nation, in a fixed fashion. We were informed repeatedly, ” India is an agricultural country with its 85% of the population living in the villages.” And that was the real fact. As such, the youth of that period of time, were with the rural or pastoral backdrop.
And, amid them girls had a very limited scope for carrier. They were provided with the education so that could be added as an extra qualification, when time come to fix their marriage. In most cases of boys, after completion of the education, were forced to decide their future carrier, as per the “whim and perception” of their male parent (father). In less less or more way, this tendency still register its presence in a despotic way, at the present.
cherishing the dreams
But whether the youth of that era not cherished some dreams regard their suppose to be chosen carrier. Answer is “yes,” and all youth too dreamed of some dreams with their eyes oped. For instance, some dreamed of becoming a teacher, for they had some teacher in mind as an ideal one. But, they were forced to choose some other carrier, since either they could not acquire the requisite education or became highly educated.
Apart from, their friends/ relatives filled them with high inspirations loaded with misconception. They misled them such as, ” brother, there is not sufficient financial back up in teaching job. You are so highly educated, why don’t you try hands in some better fields, etc.” This in consequence, too helped them conceive an inferior opinion about the teaching job.
Deviation
The another category was of people lacking proper qualification, they had but to sought for other options. Both these category, in due course of time passed their life happily. But the dream to become a teacher ever remained alive in their sub conscious mind. It happened to knock intermittently, “hey man! you forgot the dream? Once you wished to become a teacher.” Now this knocking of dream disturbed persons of both the categories. Amazingly both they developed a tendency to ignore this knocking of dream. They did it, by solacing themselves; ” well, what could we do about that, our circumstances forced us as such.”
The fact is , both of them not intended to find a good solution to that, though solution still existed. Never they gave a reflection that if they were not destined to become a teacher, still, they had had other correlated options. By expending some money, they could help some needy students to continue their study. Further if they were harnessed with high education, easily, could help needy students, by giving tuition free of cost. Further more, they might be affiliated to some organization, running the charitable educational drive.
We people never thought of such options since we belonged to that generation which always preferred to live the life in a straight direction. We had no place for such activities. We took it as burdensome. We all have had, suitable alternative options for our once cherished dreams but never we opt for that. May whatever be the reason but probably we are “self centered” and ” happy to easy go ” type people. The hazards of life look us irksome. But even after we should give some efforts and try to realize our dreams if not in bigger scale then in smaller on. Penned by— Vinay Pharasi…
