We all are attention seeker —

Have you ever noticed about the  human behavior that man by nature is an “attention seeker.”  Without the phenomenal process of “attention seeking,” this world can not run properly. This is a deep rooted psyche in our disposition. In country side, there goes a saying. ” Until an infant cries, his mother tends not to suckle him breast feed.                 ” This simply means, by emitting a cry a nascent child  seeks the attention of mother to get breast fed.

                                                    An essential element

This element of “attention seeking,” is a phenomenal  pondering process, the nature has configured in our behavioral mode as a format. This phenomenon indirectly or indirectly effects us; in the sense it works actively as well as passively.  In our diurnal life, we give efforts to seek the attention of people, and this we do through various means i.e. whatever means that suits our purpose. As a paradigm, we try to meet people personally to relate our purpose. Behind this meeting, now the purpose may be of any kind. It may be individualistic or of business kind or of other nature.

Indirectly or passively, we are governed  by this principle of “attention seeking” in unique way. In this process, until a worth noticing issue is not brought into our notice again and again, we tend not to take cognizance of that. The bright instance of this is the ”  world of advertisement.” When the advertisement of a product is brought  before our eyes repeatedly, gradually that succeeds in seeking attention of our mind and heart. In this way, it begins to inscribe in our mind. This simply means, we need some one, who should ably win over to seek our attention. The innumerable products which we use as house hold appliances and edibles, we buy only after being impressed by this technique of ” attention seeking.” in shape of advertisement drive.

                                                   Category of implementation

Likely to this there is another category of “implementation” of certain things in our life, which we follow generation after generation. Here, when we follow and begin to observe some traditions or customs, it may seem, we  are doing this all without any advertisement  or attention seeking process. Is it so?  No! Here, products we are using for last so many generations, the utility of that been imbibed in our mind through our forefathers and parents, as a teaching from our childhood. They already sought our attention to that in a subconscious way.

For instance, every community or country has got some “staple food” in its dietary chart. This “staple food” is part and parcel of certain region or country for generations immemorial. Here one may argue, there is nothing sort of phenomenal attention seeking in adoption of this “staple food.” But, in fact this process of attention seeking exists there as well. The forefathers helped develop a taste for this “staple food,” in shape of habit, This they did by insisting upon the fact, they found that food salubrious to the health . This fact they too have rammed  into our mind in favor of the food.

Likely to that, our forefathers too have introduced us about our traditional medicinal knowledge, customs and ethics etc. To make us know everything in detail, they deliberately  and laboriously have focused our attention on those points. Here, when some one seeks your attention and makes you converge on a specific point, that is individualistic effort of attention seeking.

                                           significance of attention seeking

Without the phenomenon of attention seeking  this world can not be operated. Just by the example of a student we try to realize it. A student is supposed to get up early in the morning, since he has to attend the classes in the college. A possibility is, he is being awoke forcefully  by chiding of his mother , “get up son! You have to go to college.” This process is also part of attention seeking. You may name it  motivation. But to motivate some one, you need to seek his attention in total.  Now this student  leaves the house for college and strolls on main road and there he boards on a motor-bus. Here to stop the bus to pick him, he would have to give a wave of hand to seek the attention of the bus-driver.  Further, on reaching in the college, he tries to adopt various hacks to seek attention of friends and give extra-efforts for some girl he likes.

In this our world, every one is trying to seek the attention of others.  A leader is seeking the attention of public as his voters, again lawyers seeking attention of his clients, like wise doctors of his patients etc. And when attention seeking is proposed for a major goal then it becomes a “drive.”  This may be in shape of “political drive  or commercial drive or social reformative drive.” Now a question arises, ” is there someone, who is not an attention seeker?” We can say, Yes Monks, saints, seers and every that person whose worldly desire has extenuated to a “naught,” is supposed to be not an attention seeker.

Although, to survive or sustain a living, such monks and saints may have to visit the nearest public place to collect alms, in shape of food.  For that too, they need to seek the attention of people. Not only man but animals and birds too are attention seeker and their this attention seeking process too is so interesting. May be in some another blog, I would jot down on that topic.
