The human race from its inception, been inclined to remain engage in war fare. This may sound weird. Although, when compared the
span of, ‘time of war’ and ‘peace time’ at par, the peace time seems to outlive the ‘war time.’ This war fare, has two kinds of prototype. First is Internal, in which man self – combats with his dialectics. Another one is, where he engaged in direct confrontation at mass level. Since, a man consists the unit of the society. This society, upon becoming larger and larger, shapes into a ‘Nation.’ This Nation, as an ‘entity’ is governed, run and controlled by men only. Hence, ‘Nation’, otherwise in this format is a ‘human being.’
Condition of peace
Man being highly qualified and sagacious one, prefers the virtues over vices. But, deep inside, this element of virtue’ is supposed to be affected by the element of ‘vices’. This often occurs, in the entire process of ruling and running of a government. To run a Nation stably, the element or condition of peace is a ‘Must.’ Though, a phenomenon, we notice that at a given period of time upon this planet, somewhere, two or more Nations are always engaged in “war fare.” This war fare may be at small scale or full fledged one. The skirmish occurring on the borders, between two Nations, in the name of ‘transgression’ is a paradigm of this.This skirmish, escalating into high degree of tension, when exceeds to uncontrollable situation, may transforms into a direct war.
We often experience ‘War fare,’ in the name of religion, upon the issue of distribution of water of rivers, running across the International boundaries. Even the issues of procurement of precious mineral, ores, petroleum products etc too been registered as the cause of war fare. It’s ridiculous, we are unable to find a single paradigm of complete peace, in the history of mankind. The situation, when at a singular span of time, there existed ‘permanent peace’ whole through the globe. On the contrary, apparently all Nations were living with one another amicably.
Think over it! Why man, whole through its existence, hypothetically’ remained engaged in ‘war fare?’ It’s not a funny question. May your personal observation ,about your own Country, may be full of stability and peace, internally and externally. But, just throw a glance over your neighboring Nations. They may come up as disturbed Nations either internally or externally. To be engaged in “war fare’ has ever been the destiny of the World order. What are the reasons behind all this? As a matter of fact, the mystery of the phenomenon is concealed, in the history of “evolution of man”. This history, in itself consists of millions of years.
As a modern man, we pay significance to the element of peace. But, the bitter truth is, “element of violence” is primary feature, in the chromosomes of human race. The “element of peace” is the secondary one. The man by nature is molded as such. Man combats to establish the peace. This may be considered as the ‘ hypothetical.’ An another theory of political science runs as , ” war is nothing but the extension of the foreign policy of one nation over another Nation.” Likely, so many other theories are there, but that is not the subject matter if this article.
Violence as the subject matter
This definition may sound contradictory one. As mentioned above, the “violence” has ever been as the primary feature in the chromosomes of mankind. This feature , has its roots date back, when man initiated its journey as a ‘primate.’ At that initial stage, his staple diet was “raw meat’ of wild animals. For that, he was but to hunt incessantly for the arrangement of food as such. This hunting drive could not be materialized, without being a ‘violent and merciless.” It was the question of survival. Besides, as a ‘tribe’, he was forced to remain always on alert mode. This alert mode was to protect his tribe, from wild animals, from the assault of other rival tribes as well.
Invention of fire
another significant miracle of that period of time was, when man by chance , learnt the art to kindle the fire. The introduction of fire, was like a great invention of that time. It secures the position of “heirloom” of the tribe. This “heirloom’ endowed such tribe to a “specific and advanced” status. To protect the “fire,” tribes remained engaged for long indescribable period of time. The stealing of fire was one of the major cause in primates’ inter tribal warfare.
Apart from, the perennial wrath of nature, in shape of inclement weather, too this primate was forced to encounter. This incessant adverse Nature’s war like situations, too, inside him generated the state of frustration and anger. The element of “anger’ can not be ignored, since it’s the vital factor of violence. After the long and long tired journey of millions years of evolution, there came the next phase of “civilization of human race.”
Phase of civilization
This phase of civilization, is counted back about seven to eight thousand years only. May whatsoever, man has become in the name of advancement and development, but the element of ‘vice’ in shape of violence still exist in our DNA. True, we have learnt to channelize this in some suitable ways. Though, man has been sagacious enough to realize, he can not attain dominance over others through violence. But this factor of dominance ever impels him to be remain engaged in some sort of violence. This element of dominance has emerged into various formats.
At the small level, a man not so literate, but ambitious one, can attain dominance over others, by being involved in hooliganism. On being a literate, he becomes an officer and attains the dominance over his subordinates. Here, he applies “rigidity” to maintain his “officialdom.” The subtle difference is, being him a literate one, he applies rigidity in a ‘ sugar coated mode.’ This sugar coated dominance has been named as “Authority over others.”
Need of Police force and Military might
Every Nation maintains its ‘law enforcing agencies,” in the name of Police force and Law courts. Why that is necessitated? Answer is, man despite his being a citizen, is prone to violate the law, in this or that way. It always involves some atoms of violence, to commit a crime. With the help of a paradigm I try to describe. To solve or attract the attention of Authority, a man chooses to demonstrate publically. This public demonstration is, prototype of repressed violence , in a ‘sugar coated form.’ It’s a display of angry impulse or emotions. It’s agreed, to run a system inside the country, we need a police system inside the country.
But, why we need “Military Force” as an insignia of Might. The trite answer is, to protect the boundaries of Nation from foreign aggression. Contradictory fact is, The Nation on the other side of the border, too is as sagacious and as learned as us. That Nation, too is harnessed with modern thoughts of peace and amicability with neighboring countries. She, too gives the firsts preference to “peace,’ or claims as such either. But she too maintains a “Military Force,” like us.
Denomination
The reality is , man has denominated violence as “Authority.” This Authority is needed internally, to run the Nation at home front. Again, man needs it, to protect and preserve the Nation externally. In true senses, man ever cherishes to expand his this desire of “Authority,” inside and beyond the borders of the Nation. External expansion may be in shape if “Imperialism’ or Commercial expansion as the Commercial Trade War. Every Nation has got its vested interests. To say, all these relations are maintained through amicable channels primarily, but dictated by Authoritarians. Often through aggression, through implied violence, only mode get changed.
