Being born and brought up as an Indian, whatever, I am going to describe in this article “Treatment,” but natural will have a tint of Indian ambiance. Meant Socio-local impact of Indianization, is bound to be displayed in that. Every person’s writing endeavor is deeply influenced by the social system he lives in or belongs to. Added with his personal experiences, he goes through in his life long journey. His personal experiences may include his reading materials, and the source of this reading materials may be indigenous or exotic one.
As on today, when great influx of information is easily at hand on internet. There is a unique kind of risk, when you express the view upon some topic. Risk means, that may attract a massive criticism. But here you may have a “protection,” that be roughly based upon your personal experiences about the subject matter. This experience may be, roughly of, either what you have gone through or have minutely perceived through senses as an spectator.
The term came in trend lately
The term “treatment” had not so long back introduced into Indian scenario, in a wider spectrum. This, just got introduced in Indian arena, in the last decade of last century. No doubt, his term was in common use in Western culture.” The reason was, it,s being an English term with exotic applications, prevailed in that Western culture. It was applied at later stage in India. Where, up to the end of twentieth century, English was the language of “elite class” only. This elite class, existed with the 2% English speaking population, that number has hardly has increased to 8-10% at present.
Although, the adoption of English terms in local spoken dialect, so far has widely given the origin of a unique language “Hinglish.” It is, in shape of Hindi and English language amalgamation. This led to usage of so many English words boldly. In this spread of usage, the medium of communications i.e, TV, print media and other gadgets played the big role. In the same fashion the term “treatment” too occupied a significant place. This term has got a wider acceptation, in all the linguistic channels be it Hindi or other dialects.
At the inception, as far as my personal experience and perception goes down the memory lane, the term “treat” was in vogue, though in its different spectrum. It was used, when some one entertained his friends or guests with small festive party or offering of small tea and snacks type party to someone.
Cinematic usage
As a developing nation, India was greatly influenced by “cine culture.” There was a long period of time, when cinematic related articles, news and gossips occupied a good space in all kind of esteemed newspapers and magazines. The cine world related reading materials, for a long period of time remained the most read subject materials. So the general acceptation of term “Treatment,” we find in Indian scenario introduced from there only. At the beginning, it was used to depict for the “direction of a film, by a director with his own specific angle i.e. treatment of the story by director’s creative eye.“
Usage in other fields
Another acceptation of the term was with regard to the therapy, provided by the medical practitioners to patients, as “medical treatment.” In general every person is bound to fall prey of some ailment. At least, once in a current year a man is supposed to need the medical therapy, in the sense of “medical treatment.” Thirdly, it came to an another introduction, and existed in an awful sense in some way, when we talk of “police treatment.” This helped generate the roots of this term, deep down in human psyche. It left the term “treatment” with indelible imprint in Indian context. No one can deny that “police treatment” is such a dangerous perception, which can not be erased from the common people life.
Old Substitutes of the term
Prior to the introduction of the term, so many other words were used as substitute to this term. For example, behavioral pattern/employ/apply/application/entertain/attend to. And (for medicinal sector,) nurse to/care to/ medically operate etc. But the expansion of the term “treatment” engulfed all these terminology. As on today, no any social activity is allowed to describe without affix or suffix of “treatment.”
Not long ago, it was ” process of rehabilitation”, that is now “rehab treatment”. The term helps to generate the feeling of “service providing,” that in fact never provided. The term “treatment” impliedly carries the meaning of “counselling.” This we hardly find in existence, in context to Indian panorama. The “counselling” so far has been described as a distinct field.
