Whenever people talk about “Magnificent seven” then at once the memoirs of an all time classic movie flashes in mind. So along with the short description of movie, the readers attention is needed to be focused on the another “Magnificent seven” which indubitably borrowed this title , inspired by the popularity of the movie “Magnificent seven.”
Theme of the movie
So firstly we come to the movie “Magnificent seven.” Basically in the year of 1 954, an all time classic movie was produced in Japan. This film was the costliest film production, in the history of Japanese Cine World of that time. This movie based upon a story of a village, tormented by the repeated assails of bandits gang. To save the village from the atrocities of bandits, a samurai (warrior) selects six other samurais like him. And, all they teach and guide the villagers, how to combat with the bandits.
Movie became the inspiration
In the next year in 1955, this movie was released in USA under the title of ” Magnificent seven”. The huge success of the movie, inspired film producers and directors in the cine line across the World. This aspired them, to make the movie on the same theme. A good number of movies were produced as a result of that inspiration. Some of them were, “Invincible six” in the year of 1970 and a sci-fi movie “battle beyond the stars” (1980) etc.
In our India, an all time blockbuster movie “Sholey” (flames) was also inspired by the theme of “Magnificent seven” (1975.) Later on, in the year of 1998 the movie “China gate” was clearly considered, as a remake of “Seven samurai or Magnificent seven.” The popularity of the “Magnificent seven,” as a title is so common. Just you name it, and people naturally refer the name in context to the movie only. Hardly, any one thinks, whether this term may certainly be talked in another reference or not.
Since this movie have had deep impact over the mind of people, as an effective means of entertainment. Further more, if a concept is developed through the channels of movies and inscribed in the mind of the people, it becomes so hard if not impossible to erase that concept, from the mind of people. The same phenomenon occurred with the title of “Magnificent seven”. In the present architectural historical scenario, the title “Magnificent seven” too have a connect with the last rituals of mankind. In this context, there is no denial that this “Magnificent seven” title too been borrowed or derived from the popularity of the movie.
The another context run as such. Till the mid of the 19th century, the dead of London were being buried for last four hundred years in various small parish church grave yards. naturally, with the passing of time they became dangerously overcrowded with dead. The main reason was, high rise of population density of London. In the first half of 19th century, the population of London raised to 2.3 million from one million. And, in natural course it began to overcrowd the graveyards.
This overcrowding, turned up in a deplorable condition. So that, decaying remains of dead bodies of grave yards began to infect the London drinking water supply system, resulting into epidemic. In between this tumult, some Britisher tourists to France occasioned to visit “Lachaise cemetery.” It is the largest garden cemetery there in France, and was established in the year of 1804. This is also the first ever garden cemetery.
Name borrowed
Back in London, in the year of 1832 British Parliament enacted an Act. this Act, encouraged establishment of private cemeteries, outside of Central London. This helped to establish seven major private cemeteries in the outer London . First cemetery developed at ” Kensel Green” in the year of 1833. Gradually, other six cemeteries came into existence, the last seventh one was constructed in the year of 1841, named as “Tower Hamlet cemetery.” In the year of 1981, all these seven cemeteries were given the name “Magnificent seven,” by architectural historian- “Hugh Miller.” Obviously, he derived this name after the title of 1955 hit movi, “Magnificent seven,” Penned by– Vinay Pharasi….
