Coherence of greed (in political orders.) Part 2nd

(Recap– In last part I described, how” element of greed”  became a cause of war between Nations…..)

In due process of time, this democratic pattern intermingled in itself some concepts of socialism. In the Indian context it was given the name of “mixed economy.” It had some reasons on the part of the government to adopt this pattern. In fact, in democratic pattern a free hand is given to every one to apply its hands in any legitimate business arena. Though, this freedom had some restrictions. But these restrictions were exploited by industrialists. Every industrialist as a businessman ever runs after grabbing and hoarding more and more money. In that grabbing drive, industrialists took the advantage of weak provisions of “labor laws” and began to exploit the legal rights of workers. Along with , the flow of wealth too begun to get centralized in the hands of some selective group of industrialists. This situation were some what perilous for ruling elite ( of that era) and in near future could lead to some grave problems.

This situation prompted ruling political  elite to have a bend for “mixed socialism.” Hence, government begun to establish her own industrial units in shape of absolute government undertakings. These industrial units were to be administrated by government officials with the assistance of employees as a working force. This resulted into setting up of a good number of big scale industries under the aegis of the government. The employees working in these establishment naturally accommodated as government employees and enjoyed the government protection and facilities accordingly.

Though basic concept of “socialism” was derived from the Communistic pattern as the direct rule of the government. In this “mixed socialism,” the protection of employees were given the top priority. Employees simply categorized as working class. This protection priority also introduced the concept of “Unions of workers” under the provisions of law. This helped to surface up “Unions of workers” as a legitimate body to protect the interests of workers. On the one hand this facility of “union of workers” proved helpful to workers, along with it also damaged the government establishments greatly. Often, these Unions of workers fell prey to the political ambition and scheming. Besides, these too became the stronghold of workers and succeeded to get their some unwarranted demands accepted in the name of workers’ welfare.

Along with, such kinds of Unions of workers also had had their legitimate existence in private sectors independently. But  after a lapse of time, they too became tools in the hands of either of the rival groups of industrialists or anti- ruling party faction. They, on the minor issues began to call out for “tool down strikes.” Consequently, a long series of “workers strikes” began to hit the production line. A glaring example is of Kan pore district of UP province of India. Once this city earned a name in the field of textile industry as “Manchester of East.” But the entire textile industry were forced to get shut down by the incessant strikes of workers. There came a time, multitude of workers, who once had had a secured job in factories became jobless and almost of them were left with the sole option to pull manual tricycles rickshaw. the future of their families totally became blanked and were forced to live an accursed life in poverty.

In other parts of World, the Communistic pattern came into power after long blood washed struggle in shape of public revolution. Here common people were coaxed by the dream of “equal share of property, wealth and equal participation in power.” This political order was also so alluring. The Communistic theory was basically propounded by Karl Marx as we all know. This theory in twentieth century agitated the minds of people of some great Nations widely. Since people there already for long been oppressed by the existing regime and this succeeded public mass to bring some big revolutions. The main attraction of this theory was, it guaranteed a right to the common people over every resource of the Nation. It was some what a form of decentralization of power from a selective group of people and transferring it to common people.

This dream was so fascinating, it prompted and agitated deeply one and all. Even a man who stood at the lowest margin of social system was grossly caught by this ideology. In the history of mankind of twentieth century, the glaring paradigm of “glorious Revolutions” of two great Nations China and Russia, we all witnessed. After a long awaited struggle, Communistic pattern of governance came there into existence. The main principles of this system was “collective production and equal distribution” among people.  But it too was amazing to witness rise and fall of this theory with in a single century. The same twentieth century also witnessed the deviation in basic principles of Communism, in the same Nations. Here, I am not going to discuss about the political reasons of that. My persistence is simply about  the social- psychological aspects of this deviation.

The main cause of fall, decaying or deviation in the ideology was “element of greed.” We may take the liberty to perceive it from the angle of quest for money or ambition for that. As I previously said in this series of blog, the element of greed has ever been present in the disposition of man from the inception of primitive age. With the rise of civilization efforts were given to curb it through moral ethics. To say, in every social system we notice a maxim, “greed is a curse or evil.” This sermonized people to become complacent with his basic meager needs only. Up to certain extant it also sounds propitious. But every man has a weakness to accumulate some wealth to secure his future. I am trying to explain it with a psychological paradigm.

Every man cherishes a desire to own a family and a home to secure that family.  This family contains his wife and children and towards them he maintains a strong surge of feelings of dominance and protection. Every person takes his family as his personal realm. Towards the family he holds an affection and ever wishes to provide the family a security in shape of shelter and amenities. Along with, every person desires  a proper reward for his personal skill and efficiency. This was one of the significant factors, that also helped germinate the seeds  to dissuade from the basic concepts of Communist ideology. In pursuance of concept of “collective production and equal distribution,” at the initial stage the “Commune system” were introduced. This system carried the sentiments of collective shelter, food and production line. Now we try to comprehend this all in the light of Commune of agrarian class. ( End of the part 2nd. Cont’d.)
