Bizarre categorization of Print media’s readership…..

It,s very interesting to know about the classes and choice of various types of readers of books, magazine and newspapers etc. Firstly we talk about book readers and their categories are various. On the top is “excellent”, it consists of readers who eat up any and all kind of reading material coming within the reach of their hands. They are rightly been termed as “omnivorous” readers. Some of theses readers come up later on as efficient and profound authors for their ken is huge by their being “omnivorous readers.” The eloquent speakers or motivational orators are also ‘by product’ of this category. A few demagogue are also out come of this class since enormous study of social subjects turns up a man into good psychologist that helps him read the mind of the public in general. Some readers belong to “specific class”, they are ‘selective’ in choosing the reading materials of books i. e. some may have profound interest in History, some are motivated to go through the “biography” type of contents in detail. They foster an interest in the biographies to the extinction. It’s not clear, how much they in themselves get motivated or inspired by the “biography” of great people but often found instilling the mind of youngsters through citations from these biographies.

Now we shift to the “readership” of the newspapers. If you ably read the psychology of this category, it means half the world you have gone through…. some of them are but natural entitled to be assigned as “great one” by virtue of their hobby or habit. For example, these by habit are only “Hindi language reader” but by virtue of hobby buy an “English language” newspaper along with Hindi paper and make that display adroitly to other people. The truth is, this type of readers are unable to read, write or understand English language but they buy English paper to generate a “fearful impression” upon people like themselves(non English spoken one.)

Now we take another class. Some of them are amazingly freak, they flap open the daily newspaper in reverse fashion i.e. from last page to towards front page, the reason being before last page there affixed “sports news page.” They start their reading drive from sports page only. This category is “sports lover” readership. Majority of them is unique in the sense that whole through in their life, in the name of “sports” they ventured upon”card shuffling”, ‘Ludo’, “Snake and ladder” type kids’ game. At the utmost, they were found playing Carom Board only as some hardworking game. But if you observe their demeanour of going through the contents of ” sports page” as how concentrically they mug up world records of cricket, hockey, Wimbledon and football etc. It,s miraculous to look at this category watching FIFA tournament on TV set and play imaginary football sitting on sofa chair. It,s not easier to imagine about their “over joyous” TV screen sporting drive.

An another class of readership is of “pervert” readers. They on priority basis go through the news of murder, accident, riot and enjoy a “sensual pleasure” coming across the news pertaining to violent rape cases. The half naked pictures of woman celebs are special diet to them.

Lastly common folk class readership maintains his interest in International, National, province level and so on ending to the news of ward level where he habitats. Gleaning bits of information from newspaper he participates in the debate at the local gathering, there his conviction to proclaim the “rightful decision of Prime minister of India on policy matter” as futile and foolish step in his arrogant demeanour which itself is evident from his agony for PM did not consult him prior to taking of rightful decision on policy matter. The next category belongs to “rare one” readership, who reads contents related to literature, essay, story etc and in routine peruse the editorial column with profound interest. The rarest of them are “poetry lover” who seriously go through that section and expatiate on the contents as per their own fiction. In all, there is a proverb,” it takes all kind of people to make this world.” In all certainties, it applies every where. Penned by — Vinay Prakash..
