Addiction in any form is a unique phenomenon and everyone seems to be engulfed by it in this or that way. When a person begins to enjoy this “habit or hobby,” as an aftermath it generates a tension. Meanwhile, when a person plans to abandon this , it also creates tension. Reason behind is, our body constitution becomes habitual to this and demands its dose. It’s like an “urge” to do some thing specific. In old era, there were limited kinds of “intoxicant substances” to take in and that too were available in somewhat raw form. Conventionally, there were alcohol as a country liquor, hemp weed in its plain application and tobacco ( used in pipe or as quid,) and opium in its raw form.
As much as, mankind kept on growing as an advanced man, he too developed different modes and multiple categories of these intoxicant products to enjoy the spell of intemperance. As on today, we have got alcohol in different categories as that of whiskey, rum, dry gin, beer, wine etc. Opium had been in use as poppy or as an extract in raw form. But today, marijuana, heroine, brown sugar and other bye-products we find in use. Like wise, hemp weed too been shaped in different modes to apply for rising of mood.
As if, it was not enough, man invented laboratory made chemical pills in the name of sedative and tranquil. Long back, these chemical pills in its initial stage were used by the name of mandrax followed by more intensified drug LSD. Now various kinds of “mind shattering” tablets, one may find in the market. Ironically, all these intoxicants been prescribed initially as a medicine. If we talk about Indian panorama and our indigenous acumen to find new ways of undergoing the intemperance, our youth too are not far behind in this field of discovering or inventing of new types of “tipsy substances.”
It seems we can excel the rest of the world in this field. I personally have witnessed such types of addicts. One category of them used the medicinal cough syrup’s small bottle in one go, to excite their nerves. Another category I found of youth, they were applying Muscular Pain removing ointment on bread slices, as if, it was butter and eating that with relish. This helped them obtain the “high mood.”
Third category was of young students, they were using the “whitener smell.” Whitener is a viscous material, white in color and used to hide the fonts in typing matter to conceal some error. This they were inhaling with the help of a polythene bag. First they poured a little dose of it into polythene bag, it generated a pungent smell, this sharp pungent smell they inhaled. Apart from, some brats I found inhaling the vapor of petrol, simply by opening the lid of scooter or motor bike’s petrol tank and putting the nose over the aperture and enjoying the vapor. These were the example of maneuverability of our young generation to put themselves in “high mood.”
The industries pertained to the production of these “intemperance substances” occupy a hazardous place in the field. The network of alcohol and tobacco industries is wide spread at the International level and counted as a strong lobby. Since, the production is legalized nothing special can be done to prevent them.Though a huge lobby of intellectual people always remains in active mode to awaken people about the harmful effects of consuming alcohol and of smoking but all seems vague to produce the effective results. Even government too on her own, runs campaign to awaken people (of course a fake attempt.) Hence government in India tend not to promote smoking and alcohol in public advertisement and tries to control them under hard, restrictive laws. But sale of alcohol generates a big chunk of revenue in India, that stanches the total prohibition.
Apart from that, at the International level, the business arena of Opium and its bye-products is so complex and ramified, this makes this industry so powerful and mysterious. In various parts of the world, the “Opium lords” are so strong and cruel, so that, they are in a position to run the parallel government. The estimated total evaluation of this single opium business surpasses in multi folds the entire business of alcohol and tobacco business of the world. It’s not surprising, when we come to know that the economy of some Nations on this earth is being run with the support of the profit of the opium products.
Hardly we find a Nation, where no “drug Lord” exists in any form to operate this kind of business. USA government is taken as a most powerful government, but she too has not been successful to curb this business. In America, Federal Bureau of investigation is endowed with power to control and check these drug lords and cartel. Her many operations been in limelight to curb them.
But the another facet of the coin is, The CIA when engaged in forming and toppling the governments in other parts of the continents, it seeks the direct or indirect support of these cartels to destabilize the existing governments there in her clandestine operations. On various occasions, such drug lords been found participating and running the newly formed government with the conspiratorial plan of CIA. It’s not propitious to cite the names of Nations indulged in drug business. But it’s enough to say, Nations who are not stable due to their internal factional clashes and facing a civil war, in most of the cases been dependent on the “drug industry” to procure the fund to operate the war.
Distancing from the materialistic standpoint of drugs, alcohol and tobacco, we slightly need to discuss another kind of “addiction.” This sort of addiction seems to infest us all, for, it’s a mind set perception. It’s a kind of “perversion.” Though ” perversion” often taken in aphrodisiac term, but that’s not applicable here. This Addiction pertains to “egoism”. In our system we find every one laden with some perception about himself. A person may be under the “impression of power” he is enjoying by virtue of his position. Another may be under the impression of himself being a “walking library”. Some one may swagger about his or her charming built and beatitude. Every one is under some misconception about himself.
If we ponder deeply about all these “impressions,” one thing is obvious, we ever remain under the grip of this mental disease. Just to cite, “self-boasting” is an element in shape of weakness in the personality of every man. A man is given to boast about his achievements or high connections or about his assets etc, when attending a gathering of friends. He hardly can contain upon his this habit. As it was said in the beginning of this blog, “intemperance is always cause of tension in this or that way,” that meant, you are doomed to fall into the jaws of this. When you are under the “impression” of this, you move with a swag. But when you are deprived of this power, it begins to generate a tension.
To get “riddance” of tension, you again try to give efforts to gain the same status with power. This is the universal metabolism of intemperance. Like wise, when you are young and handsome or charming, you are in tension, may other not excel you. But after a lapse of time, you feel your achieved asset is being slipped off your hands, now you are in tension to maintain that and it forces you to give extra efforts. This is a universal phenomenon, that keeps on going in a natural and systematic way. But as a human we are given to live under a self -imposed dilemma, called as “self-deception.” This “self-deception” is a mental ailment, that ever keeps a man agitated and vibrant.
