Five knacks …

Five knacks …

In our young age, as an student, every one is supposed to go though some minor incidences. These incidences may be in shape of story or anecdote got narrated by some teacher in the class room. At that time, they sound interesting only. But the impression of them remains cogent. With the lapse of time, such narrations travel with you, whole through your life. The story type such anecdote, remains afresh in the mind and happen to agitate the mind of the person.

In my that span of life, as a student, after graduating High School from my hinterland village High School, I sought the admission in an Intermediate college of the city. The reason was, it was an old era, and in the vicinity of my village, there existed no any college with the facility of science faculty in higher classes. This facility was available, only up to tenth grade. So the situation forced me to join the city Intermediate college for further study in science faculty.

               School of the Charitable Trust

The Intermediate college. I sought the admission, was run and operated by a  “Management Board of a Trust”. The Educational Trust was run in the name of a prominent Seer of some Hindu sect. The Trust was a huge one, and more than hundred schools, Intermediate colleges and Degree colleges were run and operated by this Trust Board. Still on this day, the same Trust is flourishing properly in this charitable mission. This college had an “injunction.” Apart from the study of  curriculum, as prescribed the government Educational council, It used to run an extra class for Vedic (Hindu’s religion and culture) Knowledge. For that purpose, an internal exam, college body conducted. Every student was supposed to secure, at least 30% of marks in such exam.

Although, this ‘conduct’ was not in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of India. Since, the Constitution as such does not permit to operate the study of Hindu religion. The reason is, Hindus are in majority in India, Yes, people of minority culture are allowed to run their such cultural and religious courses, in their own operated schools. Isn’t it a gross contradictory phenomenon? In fact, it sounds a conspiratorial game being played against Hindus.

                     The teacher I never forgot

In the same class of this “Vedic Knowledge,” a teacher occasionally happened to visit, and give us lecture about the subject.   He was an easy going, erudite on the subject matter. He had had a deep, profound knowledge about human psychology and other subjects of social science. In that young age, when a student is green in experience, his mannerism of delivering and elaborating the subject matter was efficacious. That helped imprinted his some anecdotes in the mind, with an indelible impression. In that young age, every student remains focused to the contents of the curriculum, of his course books only. Hence, such type of narration, in shape of anecdote happened to provide us a new vista of the life.

Now, many decades have elapsed after going through that narration of my Vedic Knowledge teacher. But, as always, his that narration in shape of a story, I find qualitatively correct. In his that narration, he had described. “Dear students, whatever I am going to relate you, is of importance. It appertains to human behavior as a part of his psychology. If in rare case, by some accident, the memory of a person, happen not to work properly. Even after, there is a great possibility, the five “knacks” I am narrating, hardly erase from his memory. Interestingly, all these five “knacks” he develops through learning. But whilst other things, acquired as knowledge, he easily forgets but not these five knacks in general.”

                       Elaboration in a lucid way

Further, he had elaborated these knacks, ” First knack is, if someone has learned the swimming, never in life, he forgets that skill. Might be, for so many years, he had not been in some water pool or river for swimming game. But, if he thrown in a deep water, after giving some desperate movement of his limbs, he begins to swim properly as he had learnt in past. Second knack, likewise is, once a man learn to ride a bicycles, never he forgets that. Third, once a man learns to write down, he won’t forget that. Whole through his life, his writing pattern remains the same. The fourth Knack is, his “body language.” It never slips off his memory. For example, he can’t forget to apply his hand to fetch the meal to his mouth. The last and fifth Knack is, “Mother tongue.” A man never forgets his own language.”

further he added, ” Due to some head injury or mental agony or other physical malady like paralysis attack, his abilities may be impaired badly. But even after, his ‘reflection’ impels him to keep all knacks alive. He ever efforts, not to forget them, no doubt that process runs in his subconscious mind. True, the bout of paralysis may impair his ability to speak, but he ably understands “words” spoken to him.

                                             Note –

Although, his lecture was mainly focused about the “behavioral mode” of a healthy man, but all these “Knacks” he had described, I suppose axiomatic and empirical one as well. Penned by — Vinay Pharasi …..
