The difference between Art and Science
In science, the laws of “change and reflection” are supposed to go on a stipulated pattern. But in social spectrum, they are assumed to go in some unpredictable way in most of the cases. Although, in some cases, they seem to follow a routinely pattern. As for example, in science if some object is put before a mirror at a certain angle, it is bound to reflect its image in the same but opposite angle. But, the same is not so for, some incidence or activity occurring in a social system to give its reflection in a fixed pattern or in random pattern .

For, in a social system, “reflection” of a “change” is an abstract thing, which is to be effected by many factors. In a social spectrum, “change” may be in shape of transformation or transition or reversal etc and likewise be “reflected” in various forms. This change in shape of transformation, may be sudden or in a gradual process. These changes, may occur in an expected way or unexpected way as well. But, this all is bound to produce some result, in shape of “reflection” of society. Here it assumes an abstract process, which undergoes at large.
The social interactions and its outcome
For instance, when two altogether alien communities, come into contact of one another and begin to interact. Now their demeanor, deportment, aptitude, food habits, costumes etc, in a nutshell the culture of one community in a certainty, effects the culture of another community. The same happens in vice versa, and after a given period of time, a “new format” that may be a “mixed culture” get generated.
In science, two matter or element react with one another and as a result a compound is formed. This compound, may have contained the qualities of both elements. In biology, the affinity of two alien organisms, be it vegetation or living object is bound to reproduce a “hybrid” prototype. The same process produces a “hybrid” culture as a reflection of interchange between two stranger communities. So the “change and reflection” are part and parcel of an incessant process, in a social spectrum.
When these “changes and reflections,” take place at a vast level. It is supposed to shape up into a “social compound,” that may have a long lasting impact, be it positive or negative. Sometimes, it may sound negative to one of the community at the beginning. Though, later on comes up as positive one. This process of “changes and reflections,” can be cited properly with the paradigm of intrusion of Britishers in India. They entered in India, in the disguise of commercial activities, under the banner of “East India Company.”
The paradigm of Britishers in India
This Company, later on got replaced by the Queen of England, and subjugated the entire undivided Indian subcontinent under its reins, by hook and crook. With the advent of Britishers in India, came an alien culture along with them. That culture had had its own social, religious, economic and educational fabrication. Gradually, this prototype intermingled with Indian culture. No doubt, this intermingling of Britishers, majorly had with upper and elite class only. But, this helped produce a good result in favor of Britishers.
In this process, a class of Indians, that got converted to “Christianity.” Some of them got, wed locked with English denizens. The offspring out of this wedlock got nomenclature, as “Anglo-Indian” one. It was the social and biological aspect, that reflected in “hybrid culture.” This hybrid culture, had influences of both culture i.e. Britisher and Indian in their food habit, apparel and aptitude etc. Apart from this a new social culture came into existence. That new social culture, deeply had some impacts, on every segment of life of Indian society at large.
The significant factor of this new social culture was, Britishers were now rulers. Now they had had an upper hand over Indian natives, in imposing their cultural norms and moorings. They did it, through administrative and educational channels. They did that effectively as well. Although, as a sagacious rulers, never they intervened into long, old prevalent customary laws and traditions of Indians.
The compound effect
The major changes they introduced in the Indian educational system, through Lord Macaulay educational pattern. As a reflection of that, for the time being succeeded in obtaining the large number of clerks, to assist them to run the British rules in the country. But this Macaulay educational pattern, in a long run had an adverse impact on old genuine educational system of India. The old educational system, was out rooted altogether. Not only this, even after when Britishers left India in 1947, for long years to come this educational system helped, not fruitfully to new Indian regime.
It was the negative reflection of the educational changes for the time being, as said earlier. But, as the time has got its own course, the same educational system helped Indian Youth in new millennium to establish their acumen in new social order. The new social order, that was based on computer know how, by virtue of their being well versed in English language. This is “compound effect” as a reflection.
Harmful effects
But the reflection of a “change,” if is malevolent may be harmful for a long period of time, to a certain part of social system. In the name of botanical change, Britishers introduced a decorative shrub named Lantana plant as a decorative flowering shrub. It was introduced, in Himalayan sub region as a part of fence. This plant, in long course of time annihilated the vast tract of arable land in sub Himalayan range. Still no any remedy to eradicate this shrubs is found .
Now we come to “social reflection,” it is an outcome of “change”. A “closed and conservative” society gradually witnesses the changes. The factor for that, may be education mainly. As a medium of change, some social reformers born in that society or group of people. These were people, who ably by synthesizing and analyzing the issues of society, succeed to know how this change can be reflected to a positive mode. Every society on the earth is blessed, with this kind of reformers. Although the peril of the presence of some pseudo reformers, and bigots ever exist there who may lead the society to an abysmal destiny. Penned by– Vinay Pharasi…..
